Le n°1 de la team Burton, l'américain Shaun White, a remporté hier la médaille d'or aux JO de Turin. Dans un "show" plus qu'impressionant, il termine à 5 points d'avance du suivant.
:arrow: http://www.burton.com/eu/fr/news/news.asp?newsID=717Burtonecchia, Italy (February 12, 2006) – Burton U.S. rider Shaun White has fulfilled another one of his snowboarding career goals, taking the gold at the 2006 Winter Olympics after a season of sweeps including all five U.S. Grand Prix Olympic qualifying events and two gold medals at the 2006 Winter X Games. Snowboarding has never seen an athlete sweep so many major events in a single season.
Shaun was on top of the world when he reached his family, fans and the screaming crowd. “I didn’t know if I would get the gold, I just knew I wanted it,” said White. “This is the best year of my life and I’m so happy my whole family’s here. I know I won’t have this again. It’s amazing. Everybody’s having such a good time.”
Burton Snowboards’ Founder and Chairman Jake Burton watched Shaun win the gold from the bottom of the Olympic halfpipe and had this to say: “I have been watching Shaun ride since he was nine years old and I knew he had talent, but I never knew he would have a run like that in his life. Not only is he riding better than anyone else, but he is clearly having more fun.”
Shaun White’s winning run included a lofty lien air, textbook McTwist, jaw-dropping frontside 10, cab 10 nose grab, frontside 9 lien to backside 9. His run is a demonstration of the constant progression of the sport. Looking back to the Winter Games of 2002, Ross Powers won the gold medal in men’s halfpipe with a solid run that incorporated a huge method and back-to-back 7s.
“Having Shaun with the Burton family for the past ten years and working with him to fulfill his dreams is what our company is all about,” says Bryan Johnston, vice president of global marketing for Burton.
Shaun White will try to add one more victory to his unprecedented list of contest wins when he heads to the 2006 US Open Snowboarding Championships in Stratton, Vermont this March.
